The task of the Institute is the collection and management of documents belonging to the state security institutions, which were written out between years: 1944 and 1990. Conducting investigations concerning the war crimes: nazi and communist. Educational activities. Within the frames of the Institute there are the following acting organs: Main Committee of Chasing the Crimes against the Polish Nation, Inspection Office, Documents Archive Office and Public Education Office.
